Isabella's Week
This week has been a little bit of a rough one for Issy. In the last month, she has thrown up a few times without having the syptoms of being really sick. On Wednesday morning, she woke up and told me her tummy hurt. She then proceeded to throw up four times in the matter of a couple of hours. In between each time, she was happy and acted like she wasn't sick at all. She didn't even have a tempeture. After talking with a consulting nurse she asked us to come into the doctor. We headed up to our great doctor, Dr. Radlo to find out what was up! She asked if Issy was pooping regularly and we said no. We then were told that Issy isn't getting enough Fiber in her diet. This is really common in children and adults. It can really affect our intesitnal tracts and how our body functions. She gave us a list of good fiber foods and I have to write down everything Issy eats for the next couple of weeks. Here has been my problem the last couple of days, we have gotten some fiber foods and Issy will not eat them. I gave her Raisen Bran and she just picked out the raisens. I made her a shake this morning with Pears, Bananas and Oranges and she took one sip and threw it across the kitchen. So, if any of you out there have some good tricks for picky eaters, I am all ears!:) What a week!

Frosted mini-wheats, Special K breakfast bars (strawberry or chocolate), kiwi fruit, mango, Smart Start (she'll like it, trust me), and whole-grain pasta or spaghetti (I know the last one sounds gross, but put lots of spaghetti sauce and meat in there and its all the same). See you in a couple of weeks!
Hey Rach! Here's some of Tyler's favorites-
-Ocean Spray makes a great cranberry-prune juice. Straight prune juice can be a little much, but this one is just yummy and it totally gets 'em going!
-Soups and stews packed with veggies and beans. Tyler loves black beans. We make them all the time Brazilian style and he gobbles them up. Also, he'll eat just about anything when it's in a homemade soup.
-High fiber granola bar type things. Kids just think they're treats.
-Does she like apples? Maybe with PB on them or something.
-Can you use Benefiber? It's just a tasteless powder that you can put in ANYTHING and it dissolves instantly and doesn't affect flavor at all. I use it for ME, lol. Once when Tyler was backed up I put it in his cereal and it did the trick.
- And like Jason said, sneak in whole grains wherever you can.
Hope that helps- good luck!
So I think that getting our kids to eat what we want them to is one of the hardest parts of being a parent...I have no advise just my sympathy!! I know what you are going through!!!
Metamucil makes a powder that you mix in with water, juice or milk. It doesnt have ANY flavor what so ever, so she wouldnt even know the difference if you just put a spoonfull of it in whatever she is drinking.
Good luck!
They have a new cook book out called deceptively delicious that mixes fiber foods with everyday real foods. (and I hear it tastes good.) Like cauliflower with scrambled eggs. And brownies with beets. Also I have heard of soaking wheat and waiting for it to get soft. Then mixing it in with spaghetti sauce. I quess it is the same consistancy of hamburger. Good Luck!
I agree with all the advice people have given you so far. The FiberOne bars have chocolate on them, so she'd think it was just a regular treat. I have lots of friends who use the powder in foods too. Caylee doesn't like plain apples, but loves to dip them in peanut butter! :) I hope that she gets better soon. Caylee just isn't eating dinner this week...who knows, right?!!! :) Eventually, they get hungry and eat until you think they're going to burst!
